Twenty-four hours remaining in Bangkok, followed by another 24 hours on three separate jets, and then I’ll be back home in the futon with the laptop, where I promise to create a big, fat, long-overdue post. Promise.

1. In the meantime, take a look at Tyler Brûlé’s 11 May 2007 column in the International Herald-Tribune. No matter what your opinion of Brûlé happens to be, I don’t think anyone with so much as a passing interest in the quality of international travel can disagree with his suggestion that the new secretary general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, should consider creating a “secretary of transport” post. This would be someone, according to TB’s description, who would professionally address the huge number of controversial issues that surround world travel today: various environmental concerns; passengers’ rights; etc.
   


2. I wasn’t able to find a complete archive of Brûlé’s IHT columns online, but a few of the most recent can be accessed here. I was particularly amused by TB’s 07 April 2007 piece about the almost unbelievable ease and comfort of Japanese air travel …
